…The Tough wear a boot.
| @#*($%!…… thumbs up. |
I would like to tell you that I did this during a massive bike crash. Or a fall across a finish line, but the truth of the matter is that I dropped like a toddler onto my driveway this morning for no reason… and now I have this boot to wear.
For the next eight weeks. Broken foot. Fifth metatarsal bone. Fracture. Pride and sanity severely broken.

New Orleans is obviously o-u-t, which is resulting in a big, massive, epic p-o-u-t. I’ll be a cheerleader for the Expert, Coach Monster, Robyn and Luke. Maybe I’ll make glitter signs.
The doctor came in carrying her laptop with my x-rays, and said, “Well, it’s broken.” And my first reaction was, “What? Your laptop?”

I’m not sure what else to say other than, this sucks, but I’m thankful that it doesn’t require surgery, that I have a foot to even complain about, that I can wear a boot so I can take it off to drive, etc. I will take this opportunity to learn to swim with the pull buoy, use the hand cycle machine, and build up my biceps.
In the meantime, somehow I’ll…
Don’t give me the boot.

So sorry to hear that! I hope it heals quickly!!
I'm so sorry!
It looks really painful! Hope it feels better soon!
so sorry that you have such crappy luck..i'd start by telling everyone it broke during a major bike crash…
This sucks Meredith
I have my fingers crossed for a speedy and successful recovery!
oh damn…. so so sorry! you are right though, at least it is just a boot and not a cast so you can keep swimming. Pull sets will be your new friend
Maybe this will be a silver lining: My first thought when I saw your full-body boot pic was "Wow, she's looking FITTTTTT" so you know. Hubba. And also: YIKES on that close up. Glad it ended as well as it did!
Oh I am so sorry! I don't quite understand how it happened but OUCH it looks painful. Take care of yourself and remember you can work on your swim for awhile…
OH NO!! That blows…. I mean is a great opportunity to regroup and work on some pool skills and upper body strength (but still, New Orleans is a bummer). I'd be doing a lot more than pouting. I'd be throwing a FULL BLOWN tantrum, but not advising you do that.
Good luck and I hope it heals well!!!
Oh no! I'm am SO sorry to hear this Meredith and I can imagine how frustrating this must be for you. I too seem to lame injuries. I dislocated my shoulder while swimming! I mean, who does that? No surgery is a good thing. Wishing you a speedy recovery!
SO, so frustrating. You're right – in the big picture, it's not a big deal. But that doesn't mean it won't make you grumble and grouch. Hope this rest/recovery time helps you come back stronger than ever!
I'm so sorry, Meredith! Well, at least you don't have to stress about training on a sprained ankle/foot. Now you KNOW that you can't train. I hope the pain isn't too bad.
Oh man. Take it easy and seriously listen to your doctor and PT. If you don't ease back in, that will be the break from hell that will nag you for a lifetime. Be good to that foot! Sorry you are going to miss out on New Orleans! That's such a bummer.
That sucks! I am in a boot too with two torn ligaments, so I feel your pain. I also had to put the plans for my first tri on hold because of this injury. Just make sure that you rest and give it time to heal!! There will always be another race coming up, but you won't get another foot.
Do you have a Jones fracture? I am currently rehabbing a Jones Fracture. I had to not run for 3 months and I have just now started back at it. I did a lot on my stationary bike. Good luck…..it's not a nice place for a fracture, but it WILL heal, just takes LOTS of time. Good vibes coming your way.
Now that sucks big time…Wishing you a speedy recovery and back at it. I definitely think glitter signs and a fog horn are in order to support the team. I know you will do it with flair.
I am so sorry to hear this! That sucks. As easy as it is for me to say, "don't worry, take your time, it's only a very short amount of elapsed time in the grand scheme of things" it would be impossible for me to hear.
I do think this is a great time to perfect your swim.
Sorry to hear this. That is one sad looking foot!
oh no. I"m so sorry. Well this sucks. or add in any other messed up adjective. I've worn a boot for the last two summers. The last summer it was because of my fifth metatarsal tear. Things that help: boxed wine from target and mini quiches from target as well. I hope it's a quick heal.
Wow! Sorry to hear that you are injured. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Thank you all for your love & support! Keep the positive vibes coming… I'm sure the dark cloud of this is going to hit me soon.
man o man, that sucks.
sounds like you have a positive outlook though and I wish you quick healing!!
Aw, that sucks!
Reminds me when I broke my foot: I walked around my couch and crunched my baby toe on the corner. Ugh.
So sorry to hear this – hope it heals quickly – and think how much you can work on your swim! (probably heard that too much, but it is a positive that most people don't get to do!)
This is a wild bummer but knowing you and your great attitude, there's something for you to gain from it.
Golden opportunity lurks somewhere in here even though this also sucks. Hope this make sense.
One race is one race and you'll be back out there after you heal — smartly and completely!
Virtual hugs in the meantime and healing vibes coming your way.
It is any consolation, this is the injury that took David Beckham out of action in 2002, almost taking England out of contention for the world cup! (OK, we were never contenders but we get our hopes up every four years!) In the UK the word metatarsal makes everyone say, 'ooh, Beckham.' His was the second on the left. I hope yours heals completely and as speedily!
LOL… Well, thanks… But…I'm prone to say "ooh Beckham" regardless of metatarsal. Ooh la la.
I broke my 5th metatarsal a few years ago when I woke up in the middle of the night (in a hotel no less) and had to pee – my foot was asleep and I decided to try to walk to the bathroom anyway. I kind of shook my foot a bit and then put my weight on it…and ended up in a pile on the floor.
I have a friend who just broke hers falling down the stairs in her house. So just wanted to let you know that you are not alone – and you are by no means the only one to break this bone in what seems like an unheroic and ridiculous manner.
Also, all three of us are attorneys – maybe it is some sort of curse?
Laura… that's hilarious. The 5th Metatarsal is the "clumsy lawyer" bone.
