Losing It

I just had a telephone call with my husband, the Expert.  With ten days left until St. Anthony’s, an open water swim scheduled for Saturday, and an ill-fitting wetsuit with a hole in the back, really… this event is all I can think about.  I am keeping in mind that I should have fun with […]

Is this Real Life?

Holy guacamole.  The wave starts have been posted for St. Anthony’s.  Seeing as how I am so stoked about anything relating to open water and “waves” at present….this was a shock to reality.  Less than two weeks! My wave will start at 7:04am.  I am racing Athena (women over 150 pounds – at least they don’t […]

Just Keep Swimming

A reader suggested that I “just keep swimming.”  Good advice. “When life gets you down… you know what you gotta do? Just keep swimming, just keep swimming….”

Panic. Bike. Walk.

PART I:  PANIC: Forty-three degrees outside this morning.  Sixty-two degrees in the lake. The Expert and I head out early.  We stop at the gate to Lake Lanier’s Mary Alice Park.  Time for the Inaugural Swim Bike Mom’s Swim Bike Run Event (a/k/a two weeks to race day). The old guy waiting at the guard […]

Open Water Willies

Sunday will be my first open water swim practice before the big race.  I have tried on my Free Willy wetsuit once, but only before the purchase at All3Sports. I thought that I probably ought to try it again before heading out to the lake.  The Expert is in Chicago and the kids are in bed. […]

The Taper

Today was the last long run before the race on May 1.   Yes, I know six miles doesn’t technically qualify as “long.”  But it does for me. After this, begins the taper.  Well, after Sunday.  Coach Monster has an open water swim, bike and run scheduled on Sunday.  I am terrified and excited all at […]

A Refrain from Self-Sabotage

Things aren’t going as I planned. I am nervous about my training, and my life in general.  My big life plans and my giant to-do list are bothersome. What am I talking about? Oh, I can tell you what’s going on.  I’m seventeen days away from a huge milestone – an Oly distance triathlon.  For a […]

Axis

The world has turned on its axis. Yesterday, I had a 2850 meter swim.  Today, I had a five mile run.  And while both were tiring, neither was overly difficult.  Something is clearly wrong. Is this training program really, really working?  Holy moly.  The power of Coach Monster and his evil ways.

Comet Crushed!

The last time I went to the Silver Comet Trail (back in September) for a ride, things didn’t go so well for me. I had taken the old G-Force bike out where I proceeded to fall twice: Total crash-o-la. But not any real heroic or “cool” crashes. Super lame crashes. I mean “crash” as in both times getting stuck in my clips […]
