Best Songs to Tri a Little

The iPod.  Oh, the iPod.  Thank you for saving my little running soul (soles).

One of my favorite things to do before a race or a hard workout is set my playlist.  Obviously, sanctioned events are a no-no for music, but the ones that allow it, I praise the race day gods.  Tomorrow, I have a little 5k, and I need some new tunes.

What gets you moving? Here’s my Top 10 favorites:

1.   ‘Til I Collapse – Eminem
2.   Animal I Have Become – Three Days Grace
3.   Machinehead – Bush
4.   Rolling in the Deep – Adele
5.   Stronger – Kayne West
6.   Show Me What I’m Looking For – Carolina Liar
7.   A Murder of One – Counting Crows
8.   Live Your Life – T.I. & Rhianna
9.   Move Along – All American Rejects
10. Just a Dream – Nelly

Now, tell me yours!

Happy Friday, everyone!

Mere – I'm SO glad I came across your blog. It's so refreshing to read a tri blog from a "real" person like me – just doing it for the fitness & accomplishment of the sport rather than thinking about Winning age groups or that kind of nonsense 🙂 But to answer your question, here are some of my top running songs right now: Uprising by Muse, Shipping up to Boston by The Dropkick Murphys, Ali in the Jungle by The Hours (this is a great motivator towards the end when you want to quit!)and The Pretender by the Foo Fighters.

Lose Yourselfand Not Afraid by Eminem are my top two fave songs to tri and run to… though there are many others I could put on the list!

Apparently I'm totally weird, but I don't own an iPod, and I don't like music on my runs. I like hearing the neighborhoos birds, the traffic (safety reasons), the meditative (relative) silence, and the occasional hello from my fellow runners. I tried to say "I like your skirt" to a fellow half-marathoner yesterday (as I was passing her — boo ya!) and she never heard a word I said. I will say that I DID like the Rock n Roll half because of the bands every mile or 2, but that was more of a communal enjoyment of the music and the atmosphere.

Jennifer, I totally understand… but right now, I just hear myself sucking wind, sounding like I am going to die… maybe if I can get that under control, I can forego the music!! 🙂 Good luck with your training!
