So I wrote this post back in August 2012, about signing up for a crazy race, Ironman Coeur d’Alene.  That decision was crazy.  But it was also a great idea born out of crazy… and an amazing journey.

When I stop and write a post like I did the other day, I really had to think about what in the world was going on.  When I know I am getting stronger, but struggling mentally.

After discussing these things with the Expert (who is planning on Ironman Chattanooga in 2015, and Beach 2 Battleship in Wilmington, NC–the half this year)… he and I knew that it was time.  Especially when, the other night, I was actually resting  a plate of pizza on my belly, in my reclining chair

Whoa, nelly.  Time to focus.

Time for me to make another crazy leap.

My poor Coach Brett.  He had a heart attack.  Not to mention that he told me “no” a few weeks ago.

Me:  “Can I register for…”

Him: “Nooooooooo.”  (Although there may have been more “o”s than that.)

Then when I told him what I had done, he said I was just like one of his children.  Disobedient.

(“But cute,” I thought.  Heh heh..) 🙂

This morning, I registered the Expert for his half at Beach 2 Battleship.

Then I registered myself…

…for not  the half.

Family meeting, Expert on board and ready to train his way to IMChoo 2015 with me, and a job situation that is going to be awesome.

I am so excited to get back in the saddle, and reach reach reach…for another big goal.

Let’s go. It’s the final date on the 2014 Race Tour. October 25, 2014.

  1. A bunch of my friends did this last year (half-relay, half-individual, full) – great race. Enjoy!

  2. So excited for you! This is my dream race since it’s in my backyard (well, sorta…I’m up in Raleigh!) I love beaches AND battleships, so it’s going to be awesome when I can go the distance. Make sure you actually tour the battleship…it’s freaking cool and the swim bike kids will likely love it (at least the boy should!) Train smart and hard!

  3. From a Merideth to a Meredith…Good for you! You will love it. It was my first half last fall and I had a great time. I know many that have done the full there as well. I launched myself into Mont Tremblant for my first full length this August so if I am at B2B it will be in the cheering section. I will be super loud if I see you there.

  4. O.M.G. I love it. You inspire me and make me want to reach (reach, reach) for bigger goals. Tri is the raddest.

  5. Beach to Battleship is a FANTASTIC race! My first half last year. You and the Expert will both love it!

  6. YESSSS. I’m so happy to hear this. What a way to kick the ‘no’ voice in your head! Go get em’ girl! And now you know what to expect, you may even see a solid PR, which is always a good feeling. Go Expert! Go Meredith! Kick some butt!

  7. Cannot wait to read your race report. I want to be Ironman one day but I skeered…. You are an inspiration.

  8. This makes me feel a bit better about my spontaneous registration for a half marathon on Monday…which happens to be on the same weekend as B2B. When I have only run a few times since my first 5k in mid-March. I blame you 🙂 And by blame I mean, you are a massive inspiration.

  9. YAY!! I didn’t race, but Sherpa’d my sister there when she did the Half in 2013. Awesome event!!! You guys are going to love it!!! Wilmington is a cute town!

  10. Yay im near raleigh nc and wanna do it too for my first but I wont pull the trigger just yet until I can finisgmh the obx oly without dying ! It supposed to be an awesome race go girl!!!

  11. Yes!!! I, too, am getting ready to press enter on an epic race registration. 🙂

  12. Wish my surgeon and shoulder would allow me to do this one this year. But I’ll have to wait until 2015 for my “Full”! Hopefully it will work out. I’m really struggling with everyone posting and training and competing and swimming and biking and running and doing the things I miss so much! BUT, I keep moving forward little by little and hopefully I’ll be back in action sooner than later! Thanks for the push I need!
