I am not sure why, all of the sudden, I feel like I am running out of time.

For everything.

Maybe because work is super busy. And because I continue to add things to my life (like most women I know).  But I don’t know why we can’t restructure the days to be 30 hours long, and just have daylight and nighttime whenever it falls, or less days in the year or something.  If I could just work 22 hours a day, and then have 8 to sleep. Wouldn’t that be great!??! But would that really extend my time? I guess technically not. Because at the end of the day (or 30 hour day), I only have so many hours (or days) left to live anyway.

Whew.

I’m really tired.  2012 was kind of a whirlwind year.  2013 was a year full of personal victories and emotional tribulations. And Ironman… (not any struggles there).

So what is 2014 shaping out to be?

Well, it seems like it would be the year to really have a great time and enjoy that pretty little bike of mine.  And I am trying… but I can’t seem to get past the lists.  The deadlines. [More yoga, less complaining would be good.]  For the first time, I am complaining about “no time,” which is a huge pet peeve of mine.

“I can’t find time to train for a triathlon,” someone would say to me.

I would just respond, “Make time.”

Funny, I still believe that principle. So I guess that I am acknowledging that  I just am not making time.  Can I

run when I get home at night?  Sure. Can I get on the bike trainer at 10:30pm?  Sure.

But I’m am just not doing it.

How do you find the motivation to get it all done?  How?  How?  When you feel that you’re at the last little scrap of rope?

Simple. Find a new rope. Make a new rope.

Okay, so I’m starting a rope business… Yay!

  1. brrrreeeeeeaaaathe in. eeeeeeexhaaaale slowly.

    good.

    now, do it again.

    you’re doing great!

    one more time.

    in…..out…….nice and slow.

somewhere, in all the craziness of our day jobs, our night jobs (spousing and parenting) and our training, we forget that we are not machines. YOU are not a machine. when i get to this point, i typically discover my motivation has been having an affair with my unstructured time. they always seem to disappear from the party at the same time – they just leave by different exits so i don’t notice.

  2. Thanks for the kick in the rear… Got the girl child to bed and jumped on the trainer for 45 min. I HATE working out at night, but I did it, and it.is.DONE!

  3. In life, people cross your path that will and can motivate you. To me, its more like a “wildfire” effect versus the butterfly effect. Such a minute little spark, a chance conversation or reading can cause my motivation to spread like a wildfire. I’ve had zero motivation until recently. Chance has caused me from going from just two training runs the past three months to running twice this past week, 14 miles the other night and 90 minutes on the old CompuTrainer last night.

Hopefully you can find that time you’re looking for. Never forget to stop and take time to enjoy the present moment…

  4. I always tell my kids (and students) that having “time” is all about deciding what is a priority in your life. Unfortunately, sometimes sleep HAS to come before exercise or I’d be a walking sleep zombie! Sometimes spending time with my kids HAS to come before training because, well, the child neglect police might consider me unfit if I left 3 kids under 8 home alone to swim/bike/run. 🙂 I love my kids, but they love me more after I’ve done my training and am “happy mommy.” I try to make S/B/R a priority, but something adult-like always seems to get in the way.

  5. I feel your pain. I haven’t signed up for any races this year because there just isn’t enough time!!!!

  6. I feel exactly the same way, I have a training program to stick to, a house to run, two boys to raise while my husband works away all week, oh and have my own job as well.

I am so overwhelmed this year.
