Hi Everyone, it’s Virginia!

Well, 2013 is in the books, and I’m finally back here. I’ve been MIA for a while due to an unbelievably busy Fall/ early Winter. And, though things have been going well, I’ve just felt BORING.

When I start to type a blog, I feel that no one wants to read about what I am thinking. I’m trying to bunk that self-doubt. BUT…I’m happy to say that in my time away, I’ve done lots of training and mommy-ing. My kids are in full-out sports mode. Both have been in swim meets and in soccer tournaments all season, and additionally we’ve done lots of hiking and having fun. My two middle boys did a 5K in early December and ROCKED it. The oldest (age 10) finished in 23:30 and my younger (age 8) in 26:36. That awesome run time is going to help them ROCK summer Kids TRIs!!!!

My husband and I also got a quick mini-vacation in early December to celebrate his 45th birthday. I could use a little more vacation time.

Most importantly (for me), I’ve really been enjoying my training time due to two things that are relatively new. First, I have a few women that I routinely run with in the mornings. What used to be once a week is now about 4 times per week. They are fun and are super early risers, like myself. We often run at 4:30 or 4:45 am, which is perfect in my tough schedule.

Second, I am LOVING having a trainer. I used to think that I just couldn’t afford it (and it is a stretch), but finding a trainer that fits my budget and works well with me has been a lifesaver. Jason knows what I need to do and what I resist doing. Because he puts it on my schedule, I feel OBLIGED to do it, and I do. So, I find myself working on strength training and yoga, which I really think are beneficial to me. Also, he just helps it stay interesting. I tend to do the same things over and over, so having variety has been great. SO….since 2014 is my IRONMAN year, it helps SO MUCH to have someone who is forcing me to do it right. I can’t overstate how glad I am to have this influence in my life. I feel very, very fortunate to have Jason helping me meet my goals (fingers crossed that I ACTUALLY can)…….the doubt is still there.

I’ve set a couple of goals for 2014…..I’m not going to call them resolutions because that makes me think of failure….just goals.

  1.  FINISH MY FIRST IRONMAN!
  2. Train with purposeful balance
  3. Appreciate my training
  4. Incorporate more gluten-free meals into my life
  5. FINISH MY FIRST IRONMAN

So, that’s it. I’m back. My SBKs are all great and staying active. I’m great & loving training. I feel like I finished 2013 on a good upswing, so I am hoping to keep that rolling.

I’m closing with a basic picture of my youngest bundle of cuteness….my future Swim Bike Kid. Happy New Year!
