NOT Training for anything?

Hi folks! Update from me….Virginia….This morning I did NOT go to the gym…or run…or bike…or anything. I had all of my stuff out to go in for a swim, but I didn’t get up and do it. I knew last night that there was only a 50/50 shot that I would drag my bum out of bed to do it……and I didn’t. SO…as I was getting the kiddos moving I said to my husband, “I hate it when I don’t work out. I instantly feel fat.” His remark was….. (wait for it)…..

“It’s ok to take a day off. You aren’t training for anything anyway.

Ok, so technically he is right. I am not training for anything…..specific…..but I’m ALWAYS in training. Geeesh! I do have a half marathon tomorrow, but I’m just running to finish it. I have no expectations of speed or time. So, I am not training for anything. I hate that. I need a plan.

My tentative plan is to do a HIM distance race in April in Charleston and then to begin training for HIM Augusta again and Ironman Florida (provided I get in). BUT…since I am not registered for ANY race, it is hard to call that a PLAN. I’m going to train as if it’s real anyway.

As I knew I would be, I am in a post-HIM funk and need to snap out of it!

I also REALLY want to get the kiddos excited about triathlon again. Right now they are so engrossed in soccer, that anything TRI-related is on the back-burner. Both middle boys are in a running club at school, and both are also on a year-round swim team, so they are engaged in 2 of the 3 disciplines, but I need to figure out a fun way (and find some extra time) to bring them all together. Soccer is eating my time away (oh, and working, parenting, and my personal training). GEEESH!

Have I said that already? GEESH!

Ok….so I need you guys to motivate me. GO! (seriously……………….)

I always try to be registered for at least one race without any lapse. It keeps me honest. But I will say, I’ve been really, really bad about getting up to work out since my last tri of the season a month ago. Hopefully when I start my HIM training plan in November I can get myself pulled back together.

I can empathize with the “instantly fat” feeling too. I get that when I skip workouts too.

    Good luck!!!!

Virginia…I absolutely feel your pain! I actually ‘worked out’ ONCE in the 12 days post Augusta HIM. Sure, I walked the dogs, but I don’t really consider that to be a workout. The thing is, I really enjoyed that downtime. Alas, I know that if I didn’t get it together, my 12 days would stretch to 22, then to 32, then next thing I know it’d be 6 months later and I’d be a mess. So, I signed up for a 10K the end of October. Then I signed up for a half marathon in December and another in February. Contemplating a full marathon in March, but the one I wanted to do (Columbia, SC) is cancelled for 2014. Still need to talk to the hubs to see if he’d support me training for two HIM next year (Raleigh in June, Augusta in Sept). So, I have a plan forming, and it inspired me to go run yesterday and my gal, Frieda Felt, and I are going to travel some miles today.

Girl, it’s time to break out the credit card and sign up for a race. I love your idea of the HIM in Charleston. Didn’t even realize that they did one that early around where I live. Thought my only option would be White Lake, NC. Now you got me thinking….

I don’t think that your boys are not thinking tri. It’s off season, heck, it’s the middle of soccer season. Besides, soccer is conditioning for running and vice versa. They’ll be fine! Besides, haven’t you realized that we’re losing daylight? 🙂

In the words of Hunter Thompson- “Buy the ticket, take the ride”.
