The Beast? (Is She Back?!)

So back in January, I was kicked in to high octane BEAST MODE. I was a nutritional ninja. I was throwing down the workouts. I felt awesome.

This was the streak where I lost 14 pounds…which I have kept off, BTW!

Oh, 14 pounds plus 2… that’s 16 pounds, baby!  (For a grand total of lucky 33 pounds since I started tri-ing in 2010. Yes, I still have 40 to go… sigh)

Do these shorts make my butt look big? Or does my butt make my butt look big? Discuss.

Do these shorts make my butt look big? Or does my butt make my butt look big? Discuss.

So back to the beast…

One fine morning three weeks ago, I was feeling pretty beast-like… and then the yuck of the Silver Comet Trail doom happened. A little over three miles into a 13 mile run….Hello hip injury! (I go to the ortho doc tomorrow. Fingers crossed for better news.)

But I have kind of been a bike beast.  I can’t run (at all), but I feel no pain in cycling or swimming–it’s only the running impact, apparently…

So the bike beast—I mean three weekends of 85, 100 and 94 milers. And before that, a hard 50 miles on a hilly route with cycling ninjas. I am swimming a lot.  I am doing planks like I’m making YouTube videos. I plank in the bathroom. I plank in the kitchen. I just planked in my office. Yes, I did. I did.

However, despite all of this… I couldn’t find the Beast since the hip issue.  Where was she? Where had she gone? Was she depressed because of the hip limitation? What happened to the Beast!?IMG_0329Hello Kitty could have been the issue.

But….I think the Beast is returning. I saw a glimpse of her last night. When I traded in wine for an (extra) bike ride, as I posted on Facebook:

Me:                I really want wine
The Expert: You have an Ironman in 8 weeks.
(Ten minutes later)
The Expert:
What are you doing?
Me:                I’m getting on the bike trainer.

And again, I saw her in the pool this morning.

This morning, she was wearing a black TYR swimsuit that is getting too baggy (yay) and she was swimming a few PR sets of 100s…  after doing the elliptical.

And most significantly in the Beast mind…

When she stepped on the beastly scale this morning… she was so close to seeing something that started with a “1.”

So that’s good news. And if the ortho appointment goes well tomorrow… maybe, just maybe…

to be continued. 🙂

You know, I have really enjoyed finding your site and reading your blog posts. You are one the reasons I began to believe I could do a tri. When I see pics of you, I see myself. We are similar in height and weight. It is distressing to me when I see you post negative things about yourself, because I simply don’t see myself that way. I know I am a bigger girl and there’s weight I can lose, but it’s my body and I love it for what it can do and what it does.

Does your butt look big? Actually I love the junk in my trunk and so does the hubby. You look great and you look very fit. I’m proud of you. Keep doing what you’re doing. You’re a beast!

Good luck with the ortho. Fingers crossed!

Ok..so you have to stop with the “pants my poop”. I was thinking about your latest post during my run last night and it It got stuck in my head like a jingle. Different rhythms and various versions starting to insist themselves; peep my poops…..poops my pee…..pee pee poo …pants my pop… on and on and I just couldn’t get it out of my head. This went along for a good mile at least before I shook it off. Does this happen to anyone else?

Am I the only guy that reads your blog posts besides the “expert”? Lol really, I just found it yesterday and have read a few and I find you quite amusing! I’m actually struggling right now to get motivated and go beast mode too. I can’t figure out what’s wrong with me either. It’s like I wanna workout but that requires me to go “out” and do “work”. Something that just doesn’t seem appealing when I just worked 96 hours straight and am going back for another 36 tomorrow. Anyway, enough about me. How do you propose I get my wife motivated to do triathlon? She has all the same issues as you with kids and job etc. I will support her in anyway that I can in doing this, I just wish she would want to do this with me as I have truly enjoyed it over the past 3 years. I would love for this to become a family thing ya know, if not something that my wife and I could enjoy together. Any thoughts?
