I Give You Permission

Are you waiting for PERMISSION to take your life into your own hands? Are you waiting for PERMISSION to start moving, to start running, to do a race?

I was.

It took my Coach Monster (long before he was the Coach) saying, “You can do a triathlon” to make me move. He said these words…plain as day …back in 2010 to start me on my journey. Remarkably, he said these words at a time when I couldn’t run a mile. He gave me PERMISSION to take the risk. And I think I was waiting on that permission.

You think triathlon won’t change you? Won’t change the world? I think it can.  And I think many of us are waiting for PERMISSION to live our lives, triathlon or otherwise.

Don’t wait. And if you can’t bring yourself to do it alone… if you don’t have any support, or you need permission… then…

I, Swim Bike Mom, give you PERMISSION to live your life, to forge ahead and make your life what you dream. Go do it. You got this. We ALL got this. (That is some fine use of the English language).

[Thanks to Coach Carrie of Tempo Life Coaching for emailing this video to me. Love ya, lady.]

Thanks for posting this! It made me tear up. I don’t Tri, but I am in training for my first half and this made me think about a lot of things. You are an inspiration to me and my training efforts. Thanks!

    Hoo boy.

I watched that video and I’m now sitting here at my desk in tears. In tears because my job is making me miserable and the stress eating/drinking is having a negative effect on my half marathon training. I have some positive stress in my studying to transition back into web development (my career from 10 years ago) and I hope to get out of this job by the end of September (if not sooner). But it’s days like today, when I wake up with knots of stress in my neck and back and dread going into the office, makes it seem like everything is so far away. So hopeless. So bad that my husband told me over the weekend “why don’t you just quit?” And today, as I’m sitting here with my daily headache and not getting anything done because I just don’t care, the option to quit is tempting. But I won’t. I’ll keep moving forward (;-)) and keep working towards my goals.

“Stop waiting. Love who you are.”

Right now it seems hopeless and hard and impossible….but I can’t wait another day. I have to stop waiting.

Thanks for letting me vent, M.

Hugs & love… Life is too short to put up with things you can’t tolerate. I’m still practicing law, but in a whole new environment and I have been blessed to have this new job. Things have a way of working themselves out… but I only believe this happens when you dream big enough to change… AND refuse to settle. You. Are. There. 🙂

Moms ask for permission from so many people every day, dont we? Husbands, kids, employers, sitters, our parents…It’s tough to internalize, but after all of those folks say yes we still have to give ourselves permission.
