So after all this time, Coach Monster finally learned that he is called “Coach Monster.”

He is working with me on the SBM Book coming out in December, and as such, the blog and all its glory is now out of the bag.

Coach M - Ironman NOLA 70.3

“I don’t like being called Coach Monster,” he told me this morning.

“Well, it’s kind of late now,” I said, “What do you want to be called?”

He shrugged.

Then I worried that I hurt his feelings – that he thought monster meant monster in the traditional sense of the word. I sent him a text message after class and told him that his nickname is not as bad as it seems.  I call him Monster because he loves REM (the Monster album) and is sweet and googly like Cookie Monster. (But he’s also a badass triathlete… so, really, Coach Monster is all around fitting.)

I guess he can be The Coach Formerly Known as Monster.

Oooh!

Let’s have a contest for his new name!  We can present him with a list of options, and the person who came up with the one he picks, wins something! Yeah yeah! Contest contest!

Anyway. Last night, the heel on my right foot started hurting. This morning, it is killing me. I have some sort of bruise that I can see. When I asked Google what it was, Google responded: “bruises on the heel can be caused from being overweight and running.”  Bastard.

But I haven’t been running! I screamed at Google.

I’m kind of worried about it, because the bruise is on the broken foot. I am nervous that if I am at Iron Girl on Sunday, favoring the heel because of the bruise, that I might mess up the metatarsal area. Anyway, I am saying prayers. I need Iron Girl! I need it!

  1. So, Karen told me about the meet up at Taco Mac. I’m not racing, but I’m going to try to get up there and meet ya’ll. With me just moving here, I’d love to surround myself with some kick butt ladies who all raced in the morning! Best of luck at the race and hope to see you Sunday!!!

  2. Suggestions for nichnames:
    Coach Awesome
    Tri Guy
—>Sidenote: I {love} Coach Monster as is name. My thought was that you called him Coach Monster because he pushed you where you might not have pushed yourself. True Coach. 🙂

  3. I’m sorry but Coach Monster has to remain that way. Tell him he can’t just go and change his name now. I think it’s endearing because the way you write about him is endearing. And coaches are supposed to be monster like in all their sweet Cookie Monster way.

Have a great walk this weekend :). Take it easy on that foot of yours, and stretch, stretch, stretch just in case you’re starting to flare up a bit of plantar fasciitis. Overweight and running…Google’s an idiot!

  4. “Coach Monster” just *feels* right. You can’t change it now! You’ve developed this character in my head! LOL It’s a lot better than what my coach gets called, “MC” (My Coach) — that’s boring. Then I’m “YA” (Your Athlete). ZzZzZzZzZz

  5. How ’bout just CM? That way when he asks you can say it stands for Challenge Master but it will still be Coach Monster. 😛

  6. You could keep the Grasshopper theme going and call him Sensei – or Coach Sensei. 🙂

  7. Hey! I know your Coach Monster and I think it’s the PERFECT name!!!! You could tell him it could be worse – he could be Coach Diablo!

  8. Maybe instead of a contest, he just requires his own gear… SBM propelled by Coach Monster. Maybe we all should just send him love notes. I ♥ CM!!! 🙂

  9. I can’t believe he didn’t know his nickname! I always thought Coach Monster meant he was a monster at triathlon, you know, like a beast. In a good way! I never thought it was anything but a positive association, even when he pushes you outside your comfort zone you are reverent about him! I would love a Coach Monster of my own!
