The Expert left with the kids to go to the gym this morning. As he shut the door behind them, I lost it.  A few minutes later, I scrambled around and picked up the phone and called him, hoping to catch him before he made it far down the road. I was screaming, “Wait! Wait for me! Wait! I’m coming!!” I threw together my swimsuit, goggles, and swim cap, and a change of clothes and hobbled out to the car.

I have been trying to stay off the foot this weekend, but I was starting to go a little mad. I limped into the gym with them. I de-booted by the pool.

I made friends with my pull buoy.

And I swam 1.2 miles. All with the pull float.

I limped out of the water and took way too much care in the locker room, but I now feel like a million bucks. A million bucks with a broke up foot, but a million bucks anyway.

Glad I went, instead of moping on the couch for another day.  Yes, I need to rest the foot. But sometimes the mind needs the exercise as much as the body.  Felt good to move.

I talked to Coach Monster afterwards. (Coach M, who rode 8 hours yesterday in the mountains, and 4 hours today….that’s correct, 12 hours on a bike). He told me to take the swim easy so I don’t bust up the shoulders.  So I will try and swim a few times this week, and continue to hope for a speedy recovery.

For reasons unrelated to my foot, the Expert is bowing out of 70.3 New Orleans. We hope to still go down to the race to cheer on Coach M, Robyn and Luke.  I could have alot of fun in NOLA without a race hanging over my head. Of course, I wish I was racing.  But there’s always next year, and Augusta 70.3 in September.

  1. Swimming is perfect for an injury like that. It gets the blood flowing down there to speed up recovery, but it doesn't put any pressure on it while it's healing. I know how stir-crazy you must be going. I'm getting a cast off my ankle this week, and I actually had to take a week's vacation just to enjoy my new-found freedom! The first thing I'm going to do is hit the pool.

  2. SBM you are aware of July 8 and 22 Olympic Distane Tri's in Chatt. and Nashville (Team Magic)
