Despite a pretty good, but emotionally and physically draining weekend, this week has been a beating.  The Expert and I returned from Savannah feeling fairly refreshed.  Midweek and we’ve been hit by a truck.
With that 13.1 this past Saturday, I am just now able to move my legs with ease.  I was surprised how sore I was from that race.  I don’t remember being this sore from Miami 70.3, but I must have been.
At this gym this morning, I was supposed to put down 3700 meters in the pool. That’s just insanity. I ran out of time and ended up around 2400 meters, which I think is more sane.  Wandering in from the pool, I almost jumped on the scale.  But I didn’t.  I am still enjoying my freedom from the scale.

Tomorrow, I am staring a 9 mile run in the face. That seems pretty ridiculous for a number of reasons:
1) I have slept about 5 hours in the last two days due to the kids being sick and waking up every 20 minutes to cough, throw up or wet the bed;
2) Work is stressing me the hell out;
3) I’m still apparently fighting the plague chest cold; and
4) Life in general is stressing me the hell out.
I can’t seem to find enough time for anything.
Outsiders would say, “Well if you’d stop all that swimming and biking and exercising” then you’d have time. It cracks me up when people say exercising, by the way.  I guess training seems weird to say about someone who is my size.  But I am in training. So there.
So yes. If I stopped spending 11-15 hours a week in the gym or in the pool or on my bike, I might have more time.  But somehow, I managed to piss away these kinds of hours for the past 10 years, and yet, end of equally (if not more) stressed out during those times…so….
I know with every fiber of my being that cutting out the training is not the answer.
Cutting out the job would be a luxury, and would probably result in a divorce.  I’m not the type to stay at home. The Expert is not the type to marry a non-income producing woman.  That doesn’t make him sound very nice, but I’m not really sure how else to put it.  We are a dual-income household, and that’s the way it’s gotta be.  Even if I stayed home, I’d probably turn into one of the obnoxious Stay At Home Mothers who bakes, crafts, and blogs only about how cute my kids are.  Then I’d volunteer for all sorts of shenanigans.  Resulting in me not having any time.
See? I just think there’s no more time to be had.  So when the going gets tough, the tough get going and going and going.
Since there’s no real time, I guess it’s time for some race photos from the weekend. These are some jewels.  The Expert ended up with the best ones.
Cheese.
Mountain Goat has mastered the dual thumbs.
Oh goodness. Moving on.

 I like the background. Not so much the foreground.  At least I see a rear kick in that stride.

It may not be a chicken wing, but there’s something going on with those arms.

Jazz hands.

So proud that the Expert has adopted the dual thumbs up.

And another one.

Taking off for the 10k.  Good shot – love this one.
Well, Hump Day is nearing to a close, but I see a Full Moon rising.  Time to go straight to bed and pull the covers over my head.

  1. I am a firm believer that the race pain is like child birth…your body lets you forget enough of it so you have to do it again. LOL!

    And I am totally that stay at home mom. I bake, do crafts, blog (sometimes-but mostly about training now)…and I volunteer for all the shenanigans so all my working mom friends don't have to. 🙂
    I'm in the PTO and class mom and I'm even the cub scout den leader to 10 little houligan 2nd graders. hahaha!

  2. I never thought about thanking the SAHMs for taking on the shenanigans… hmmmmmmmmm…. THANK YOU 🙂

  3. Way to go on you 13.1! That's awesome, and you looked happy in all your pictures. That says something! I loved the 70.3 shirt. Wear it with pride!

    It sounds like your kids are feeling pretty rough, and in turn, that's bringing you down too. I hope they get better soon. And, I think you're right that stopping the training isn't the answer. Although, a little rest here and there is needed too.

    Great job in the pool! Keep up the good work!

  4. Just my humble opinion here. Read "I don't always follow it".

    Recovery is part of training too. If you need a break due to lack of sleep and race soreness, consider taking a half hour nap then doing a 1-2 mile recovery run just to get the legs moving.

    I agree with you. I use to spend my hours that are now training hours on other things, but if you are run down, recover so you don't get sick and lose more time for training.

  5. I had a 1 year maternity leave with my first child and almost went bananas! It always sounds great to be "at home" but the reality is that I love working too.

    Agree with Mike above, a few naps might help reinforce your immune system…so you can train more!

  6. You look awesome and strong running in those pictures!

    Definitely agree that I would just find time-fillers if I weren't spending so much time working out…kind of like right now, when I should be getting ready for a run instead of spending two hours online – better get going! 🙂
