Came across this quote in my Experience Life magazine last night in the opening article written by the Editor, Pilar Gerasimo.  Love it.  Love love love it.

β€œTell me, what is it you plan to do

with your one wild and precious life?”
―
Mary Oliver

[View from Life Time Fitness window this morning post-spin.
I like how the gym ceiling is reflecting in the sky.]

Your one wild and precious life.
The article was very home-hitting for me as well, if you have a chance to read.

I’m not sure where all this self-finding stuff is coming from, but I swear, it’s bubbling out of me like a volcano.  Hey, I found out something new about myself!  Hey!  I realize that I don’t want to be here forever!  Hey, I don’t need my scale!  Hey, you are a toxic person – note to self: delete you from my life.

[Post-spin tomato head.]

Question that the Editor asked herself on her self-finding journey (specifically, a work-finding journey) were:

  • “If I could walk into the job of my dreams, and a work environment that suited me perfectly, what would it be like?
  • What role would I play? What kind of team would I be part of, and what kinds of people would I work with on a daily basis?
  • How would I spend my time, and what skills would I be using every day?
  • What would the larger purpose of my work be? How would it be making the world a better place?”

I think these are important questions to ask.  Questions that are terrifying when you are in a place or job that you’ve either been residing forever, or have been trained to live in.   So I might ask these questions.  I wonder how I will answer them….

As to the skills question, “what skills would I be using every day,” would most definitely be my nunchuck skills, bowhunting skills, computer hacking skills….

Oh, btw, saw my friend, Karen, a fellow blogger in spin class this morning.  She’s got a hefty race schedule coming up, and she loves that Wednesday spin class as much as I do.  Check out her blog if you haven’t already.  Fellow Georgia girl. You must love her!  You must!!

[I’m sorry, but this is pure awesomeness.]

Hope you guys have a great Wednesday in your one wild and precious life.

  1. I'm liking that pic to. Awesome job hitting spin this morning. They are actually starting spin in my gym FINALLY sometime late this month/early next month! HORRAY!

  2. Holla! thanks for the shout out πŸ™‚ Love the embroidery… Hilarious. You know I am going to have that song in my head all day!

  3. SBM Since you are a suthen gurl you must have watched every bowl game featuring an SEC school … well maybe not. Your post today (and all of this motivating stuff) reminds me of Coach Franklin and the Vandy Football team that holds up "6" fingers For what? we ask "Amnesia" was the answer a philosophy that encourages a roster of once emotionally resigned players to measure out their tasks just one play at a time. It also creates a calculated form of amnesia and naivete that allows the rest of Commodore Nation to believe that, despite a lifetime of irrelevance, the culture is changing, six seconds at a time. Ignoring overwhelming evidence is easier six seconds at a time.

Succes is easier broken into manageable pieces Vandy went to their second bowl game in 30 years

  4. These are great questions! In fact, since I may face yet another layoff in the new year, I think I am actually going to answer them – scary!

  5. Love this post. Those questions are really questions that I need to ask myself. Thanks for posting this. I'm also now following your friend's blog. πŸ™‚
