As I came down the shoot (ah-hem, chute) on Sunday, heading home from my first 70.3, I was thanking God and telling myself, “Don’t sign up for these shenanigans again.”

Well.  Two days later, I decided to get out my credit card, and pay the fee for… 70.3 New Orleans in April 2012. Eeeek!  Like childbirth, I forgot the pain of Miami within 48 hours… and I’m going in for seconds.

I’m an all or nothing gal.  I need new goals to move forward. I don’t have time to waste. I’ll gain every stinking ounce back in 10 days at the rate I’m going.

Some people asked me if I was going to jump from half-Iron to full this coming year.  I thought about it, I pondered it, and I asked Coach Monster (who is so awesome for not laughing at my crazy question).  I’m going to have some fun races this coming year, and try and pull off New Orleans 70.3 and Augusta 70.3 if I can stay happy & healthy!

As a little fun comparison, and because everyone likes a good “Before and After” show and tell, I bring you a before and after show of me and the Expert.

Before – St. Anthony’s – May 2011

During –  September Olympic Distance / 70.3 Miami – October 2011

I’m not ready to call these “after” photos, because they are just halfway there.  Yes, a long way we’ve come….but a long way to go remains.

But our journey and these photos are just proof of what a little (okay…alot) of moving forward does.

And the only reason I don’t have a photo from Miami in the above….is because all my Miami photos are me acting crazy.  See? Toldya.

  1. You guys are looking awesome and congratulations on signing up for another 70.3… You truly are a sucker for punishment 😉

  2. that is awesome – and a brilliant idea to not have much downtime over the winter! Pondering New Orleans right now…

  3. I did Augusta 70.3 this year. It was my first Half-Ironman (only been racing one season). You'll love it. Downriver swim with a strong current; a rolling bike course (nothing too bad), and a FLAT FLAT FLAT run course. It's a double-looper though, but it's not too bad. It sounds like a dream compared to Miami. Good luck! I'm thinking about New Orleans too!

  4. Ha! Yes, I know that feeling of race amnesia 🙂 Good that you're giving yourself a little downtime before your next one… I should have done that too. And holy cow, what a difference in your before and "during" pics! You are making AMAZING progress… you're a rock star. I know you are an inspiration to many, many people. Keep up the great work.

  5. Do you know what I love MOST about those before & during photos? The SMILES in the during ones! Yes, you both look awesome, springier, skinnier, stronger, but the smiles on your faces make more difference than any of that. I love it. Keep it up and those smiles will only get bigger! I'd love to do a race with you guys sometime but it's a wee bit far to cross the country for a tri…maybe someday!
