As I am gearing up for St. Anthony’s, I am thinking of all the humiliating things that can happen to me during my first Oly distance event.  I need your help, and there’s $50 involved.

I told my crazy runner friend, Liz, that I want to simply finish St. Anthony’s. In one piece. She responds, “Well, really whether you finish or not, there’s bound to be something crazy to happen to you, so it will be fun to read about…regardless.”

Now, for those of you who have followed me for awhile, you know I have quite the track record of idiotic triathlon and non-triathlon related events (low speed tipovers, random crashes, fights with nature).  Basically, if I have to use my arms and legs, I will create some sort of mini-tornado which often results in injury to myself or others.  Yes, I am working on more positive self talk. But really, all I can think about are the thousands of possibilities for wardrobe malfunction during an event.  Or poop.  Sorry, I always think about poop because I live with toddlers.

Here’s where I need your help.  I am starting to get the nervous race jitters.  And I have eight weeks left. Yes, weeks. I cannot continue to jitter like this (although perhaps it would be beneficial for my weight)…
Tell me your most embarrassing triathlon moment – during training, racing or what have you.  And for the love, please don’t tell me something like, “OMG, I totally finished second and that was so embarrassing.”  That will make my eyeballs explode. I’m talking baby triathlete, newbie, Fred, pants falling down, poo on yourself embarrassing stuff.  I know it’s out there.
I will post the best (worst?) responses (anonymously, if requested), and the one that makes me feel the best about myself …wins $50 (Visa or AMEX giftcard).
Three ways to enter:

I’ll keep the contest open for two weeks, until March 22nd.  I’ll announce the winner shortly thereafter!

Thanks, ya’ll!

  1. well, this wasn't a tri embarassing moment, this is a bike race embarassing moment. we were warming up just riding back and forth down the road to stretch. well it was really cold and windy that day, i was coming up to the group at the start/finish line, i clipped out my right foot and had it on the ground, then all of a sudden a big gust of wind came, i lost my balance and fell over in front of everyone. pretty embarassing, since most of the racers were pros. 🙂

  2. Same race:
    1. I was half way through the ocean swim. Stupid me didn't sight often enough and as I got that lonely feeling (I'm not that fast), I looked up and saw I was heading straight out into the Atlantic Ocean. The kayakers were coming at me and said to turn around because I was a good 50 ft away from the rest of the pack.

    2. This was a beach race on Hilton Head and they don't close the beach to pedestrians. They also allow dogs on the beach before 10 AM. I was on my bike and a dog comes darting out in front of me. I slam on my brakes, skid and slide all over the sand and end up slicing my leg as I jumped off the bike. The dog escaped unharmed and its owner just looked at me.
