Longest Weekend EV-ER.

Okay, so the weekend wasn’t long. The weekend flew by.

But the training that happened… well, that felt very long.

In fact, all the training this week was hard. (Come to think of it).

Just me on the trainer... with a princess.

I just completed the longest trainer ride of my life (4.5 hours), topped off with a 3 mile run. And yesterday was a 14 mile run.  On the treadmill because of the torrential downpour and lightning.

Geez. Am I training for an Ironman or something?

I may not have an Iron body… but after those two workouts, I certainly have an Iron mind.

It’s no small mental feat to run to nowhere for almost 3 hours… then the next day, ride to nowhere for 4.5 —but I felt myself grow tremendously this weekend, despite the boredom and the pain.

It was a good way to end the 10 days of training dedicated to my Dad.  His birthday was on Friday, and because he always believes in me, and I need to believe in myself just as much… I decided to add a permanent reminder on Friday afternoon.

(Don’t pass out, Mom… you should be used to me by now.)

I chose my right shoulder because that’s the side that always hurts the most on the long rides…kills me on the long swims. I want to feel the reminder when my shoulder starts to drop on the run.  Just believe.

Plus I really think an M-dot might look nice right over it, or behind it. 😉    

Tomorrow… another 10 days starts.  Thanks to my dad for being in my heart and helping me through some tough workouts this week!  

Tomorrow… 90 days until the big day.

    I am totally impressed with you! My daughter introduced me to your blog. She is a triathlete, having done many sprint tri’s and a 70.3. Now she is training for another 70.3 and her first marathon. After nearly 30 years of running and 11 marathons, I did my first sprint tri this winter at her suggestion. I must say, even though my swim leaves a lot to be desired, I really liked it and did much better in my bike and run than I had expected to. At 62, I am looking for another challenge. I’m not sure if it will be a longer tri or another marathon or some half marathons. But, whatever, your persistence on the treadmill and spin bike (both of which I dislike intensely compared to the outside versions) and your time restraints as a lawyer and mom have encouraged me to keep working and not let my age or slowing down stop me. Thanks–and good luck in your Ironman!!!

    Dude, you know you need to stay out of the pool for 2 weeks post-tattoo, right? Right?

    I really think Ironman is 75% mental. Trainer rides and dreadmill runs are HUGE for this. When you’re hurting on race day, all you have to do is look back and think “I did 3 hrs on a treadmill to train for this race, I’ve got this!”.

    You are pretty badass Meredith. I hope you never forget that! All of this hard work will make the finish just that much sweeter. See… Yoda knows what she’s talking about! 🙂
