10 weeks until St. Anthony’s.

The competitor’s list has been released, and my name is really on there, along with the Expert’s, so that made this all feel pretty real.   Alot can happen in ten weeks.  Hopefully, something will happen like effortlessly run 10K, and lose 20 pounds.  Here’s working to that!

So far, I have swam a mile, biked 17, and run 5 miles.  Not all in a row.  That’s the main challenge of triathlon… putting it all together like a puzzle.  But the workouts are building.  Coach Monster is really taking the guess work out of my craziness.  I just do what he says, and that’s that.

So, actually I have ten weeks to stack together a 0.9 mile swim, 24 mile bike, and 6 mile run on a competition day.  Really, that’s not impossible….or even that terrifying.

Sure, it will be exhausting. And sure, I probably won’t be able to walk for a week.  But I believe it is completely doable.  I believe that if someone held a gun to my head, I could do an Oly distance tomorrow.  Notice, it would require a firearm.  But there’s that added boost on race day, anyway.  The adrenaline, the excitement, the gear.  Totally ready.

This morning, I was scheduled for a three mile run. I couldn’t bear to look at the treadmill, so I took the run outside.

And I was alot faster than I thought….  I couldn’t keep my heartrate in Zone 2, though.  More of a mid Zone 3. I pushed four miles out at an 11:00-11:20 mile pace – which, of course, isn’t going to win me any medals or even get me a cookie- but which is markedly faster for me.  The last 5K I ran was a 12:45 pace, I think.  And that was a race. So it’s coming together.

My hip is bothering me after pounding on concrete today. I need to be careful.  That’s the main issue, I think – the impact, plus me, plus my gimp hip.

Happy Thursday, everyone!
