Today was Ironman G’s spinning class. I felt powerful and savvy in my shiny new Shimano road cycling shoes. I did not feel saavy in my crappy t-shirt and too tight shammy (chamois?) shorts. I cannot find a proper top to fit me. Apparently, “XL” in cycling/triathlon clothing actually means “pretty damn small.”

Class was great, I was tired at the end. When Ironman G rushes out of the room to throw up …from his very own class, that should tell you what we are dealing with here.

I wandered over to the treadmills. I thought, well, if I’m really gonna try this triathlon thing, I ought to see if I can actually bike and run, back-to-back.

The Brick, as known in the triathlon world, is a combo of two triathlon events: swim-bike or bike-run. I don’t think swim-run or run-swim consistitues a Brick because it’s out of order. But I can’t be sure. I’m new to this stuff.

So I run a mile. Feels awesome. Suddenly, I think: I can do 5k. And to my surprise: I do.

The combo of spin class plus 5K is a Brick.

My first Brick! Brick brick brick!

Well, maybe a faux Brick because it’s on a spin bike and then a treadmill (instead of a road bike and then the road).

But still. I am starting to believe that I may be able to do this. Not too sure what “this” is…. but it is definitely something.
